Spanish is the second most commonly spoken language in Oklahoma, and we are committed to reaching all members of our community. We produce many event invitations and communications in Spanish. We also co-host Spanish Engagement nights where all material is presented in Spanish either by Monster Soup Society youth leaders or staff. Focused on mental health, substance use, and the risk factors that contribute to them, our engagement nights provide information and guidance for the whole family.
Organized and operated by the Monster Soup Society youth leaders, available for all teens and their parents, and can be hosted by any organization that wants to help Monster Soup Society spread awareness and make an impact on our community!
Through our Spanish Engagement events, we address the following risk factors:
Low Reception of Risk: 2 out 3 Oklahoma youth are at risk of substance use due to their low perception of risk. We can change this by providing education on substance-use and healthy alternative coping skills.
Psychological Distress: Substance use occurs more frequently among those with depression, anxiety, and other mental health disorders. By addressing the rate of psychological distress that occurs among our Oklahoma youth and providing helpful coping alternatives can we help them acquire the necessary tools to use in moments of distress and anxiety.
