An Instagram campaign developed and operated by Monster Soup Society high school community workers to raise awareness of the risks and dangers of underage drinking and marijuana-use and correct misperceptions about social norms among youth.
Like all other Monster Soup Society projects, this Instagram page is developed and operated BY youth FOR youth.
The profit-fueled addiction industry targets youth daily online. That is why Guide Towards was created. Guide Towards is an opportunity for youth to engage with youth in order to challenge some of the narratives of popular culture while still remaining a part of culture and learning to be change agents within ones culture.
Low Perception of Risk: 2 out 3 Oklahoma youth are at risk of substance use due to their low perception of risk*. We can change this by providing education on substance-use and healthy alternative coping skills.
Social Norms: Popular media makes it seem like all youth use alcohol and marijuana, even though most youth in Oklahoma do not. Guide Towards work to educate peers about what is actually most common, while continuing to work to lower the number of youth at elevated risk for problems due to substance use.
